COMMON WHITETAIL - IMMATURE MALE - Plathemis lydia - male

COMMON WHITETAIL - IMMATURE MALE - Plathemis lydia - Male
Greenville, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
August 5, 2009
Size: 1.7"
I feel fairly certain that I've correctly identified this dragonfly, but I'm submitting it to be sure. It was perched on the edge of a stone bench. It had also perched horizontally on the top of the bench, but whenever I approached it there, to take a photo: it took off. It stayed put on the edge, so I got the photo! It was a VERY HOT day.

Correct!
Pretty unmistakable species. This is a young male (no "white tail" yet), and a great image of him. Keep up the great work:-)

Thank you! I would have not looked carefully to see that it is NOT a female. Now I will.
