Host plant ID
I think the plant in this photo is one of the "lettuce look-alikes", but is not actually Wild lettuce (Lactuca canadensis). Instead, I think it is Common Sow-thistle (Sonchus oleraceus); note the spined, clasping leaf base. Note also the slightly flattened and grooved stem (along where most of the aphids are located).

 
Correction
Upon further perusal of manuals, I see that the groove in the stem is too wide for that of Sonchus. So it goes back to Lactuca, but is a spiny species such as the Sonchus-like L. scariola instead of the spineless L. canadensis.
