Horsefly - Tabanus

Horsefly - Tabanus
I-70 WB rest area just west of Effingham, Effingham County, Illinois, USA
August 23, 2009
Size: 15-17mm
This horsefly landed on our sideview mirror at the rest area. I snapped this one picture through the window before it flew away. I'm not sure if it's good enough for an ID.

Moved
Moved from Horse Flies.

Horsefly
It is a species of Tabanus, possibly Tabanus sulcifrons or a relative. There are a couple of other species that are similar.

Thank you
I'll move to genus for now. It does look very much like sulcifrons. It is a female, correct?
