Nicocles

Nicocles "flashing" - Nicocles pictus - Male
Chesterfield County, Virginia, USA
April 12, 2009
These male robberflies would undulate their abdomens, causing it to "flash." Combined with the dark bands on the wings, one can see from this series how a nearby robberfly might perceive it.

Nice series, Steve.
I've really enjoyed your robber fly posts of today.
