Insect on Rose Bush - Zelus renardii

Insect on Rose Bush - Zelus renardii
Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Tarrant County, Texas, USA
August 23, 2009
Found him sitting on a rose bush twig 3/32 of and inch wide (the twig)
The insect was apx 2/3 of an inch long. Also, is this somewhere between
nymph and adult? I just noticed he is missing a large section of his
most forward left leg, good thing they have many more legs!

Zelus sp.
It's another assassin, an adult. There is really no in-between nymph and adult, but there are several instars of nymphs, that is it molts several times while still being a nymph (all instars looking similar but each one bigger than the last one), until finally it emerges as a fully winged, sexually mature adult. The wings are usually the best indicator, except in some female grasshoppers and such, that never develop functional wings.

Thank you for all that information
