Are these Red Velvet Ants?

This is probably D. californica
I am fairly sure that this is D. californica, but the diagnostic tubercles on the back of the head are hidden, so it could possibly be D. coccineohirta.

These are obviously two different individuals
so the images should not be linked. Were they a mating pair?

I did not know this was a violation of protocol. I was simply making the point that they appeared to be sexually dimorphic with respect to the wings.
