Moved from Crab Spiders. Hi Debbi! :) The Balabans re-found your photo and I think we all believe it's a pretty good match to this species. The geographic location and habitat fit well and this one seems to be pretty distinctively marked. See what you think. More info. on this species in Shick's Crab Spiders of California (a big but free download - link on BG).

Great job
on keying yours out Ken. Another great addition to the guide!

Thanks Lynette -
I'm on a mission to add more of our CA crab spider fauna to BG. :) Unfortunately, many seem to be endemic to California, so I'm not sure how helpful it will be for most contributors.

What a beauty!
If you return to this place could you try to coax it out for some more images? We wonder if this might be our first Thomisus, but can't see the eyes well enough. Great find. Look forward to more images.

CA Spider List
is working again.

Misumenoides formosipes?
That would be my first guess... however, it has slightly different markings that the others in the guide.
