Another specimen
I've been specifically looking about the yard for another one of these flies, in the hope I could get a better image of the face. Today I lucked out and found one. It was searching for something in what remains of the spread out, wide leaves of dandelions. Maybe it will help for a more specific ID?

:-P)

Very close, indeed
The body seems almost a perfect match, but the facial features and size of the head in relation to the body don't seem to fit. Perhaps it is the same, but different sex? That would be nice, because according to the maps, images for Microphthalma have only thus far been submitted from Texas and Louisiana.
