Ant vs. Spider

Ant vs. Spider
Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
September 13, 2005
At first I didn't understand what was going on here. It looked like the ant was attacking the crab spider (first image). But that didn't seem right. A few moments later a fly stopped by to investigate (second image). It was only near the end of the struggle that I realized the ant was trying to steal a bug that the spider caught (third image).

We agree
great image! In addition to everything you mention, if you look closely at the second image you'll see a fly has come in to "share". It looks like one of those flies that show up quickly when a stinkbug has been killed. Check the comments at .

Neat thing to witness.
