Cicada - Okanagana occidentalis

Cicada - Okanagana occidentalis
Hurricane Hill, Olympic National Park, Clallam County, Washington, USA
July 9, 2007
Size: ~2.5 cm
Our common summer cicada. Often heard, less often seen.
Haggard and Haggard list only Platypedia minor.

I have more images and a recordings on my Olympic Natural History site, but realized I've never gotten these identified.

Nice image additions for this species, Stephen!

Okanagana occidentalis
The common western species in cooler localities.

Thanks
Good to have a name for a species we hear and see every year.

Cicada
This is a species of Okanagana. I don't like bad-mouthing anyone else's books, but I do not have a favorable opinion of that one, either.

Just to be clear
What I wrote is that the only cicada shown in the Haggard and Haggard book is Platypedia minor. I did not write that the cicada I posted is identified there as Platypedia minor. (The book's photo isn't large enough for me to tell.) They list Platypedia minor in California and Oregon.

Sorry if my post was misleading.
