Eurytomidae…
The semi-quadrate head shape, strongly sculptured and punctate thorax, dull black coloration, a shiny, rounded and compressed abdomen, and an amazingly long petiole ID this as a male. I'm envious - do you sweep vegetation, use pan traps - how do you typically find so many of these and where?

See reference here.

wasp
Almost all of these wasps are found in a nearby conservation park by sweeping through low underbrush with a low tech plastic bowl. I've now started capturing the more interesting insects in small jars to take home to photograph and then releasing them back in the park -- or they often release themselves shortly after I open the container and snap a few photos. There are quite a few that escape even before I can capture them or photograph them so I'm always enticed back to the park to try again.
