3+ inch spider on porch in Middle Tennessee.........

Unfortunately I was not able to get my camera and macro lens, but I was walking outside on my patio and my wife suddenly screamed. It turns that there was a fairly large spider(3 inches or more) in front of us on our patio at 10:30pm. Now, I have never seen such a large spider around here(Clarksville Tenn.) I believe that the spider was brown, but it was hard to tell in the light. What kind of spider could this be. I am used to Brown Recluses and Black Widows, but had never see one like this before.

Thought you should see this post....

This Wolf spider was 3" long including legs -- and found in Kentucky.

It might have been a wolf spider. I wish I had had my camera, but my screaming wife kind of made me forget about everything:) I am about to post another spider I found this summer in the Adirondaks of NY state, and I actually have a picture. I've seen very large fishing spiders in Wisconsin

...and there are fishing spiders found in Tennessee.

But I am not a spider expert, so it could have been another type.

That might have been the spid
That might have been the spider, of course it was dark so it was hard to tell. Are fishing spiders poisonous?

Regarding spider venom, see Chris Wirth's article
here. Fishing spiders are apparently not considered dangerous to humans, and are not even listed in the article, but some of the links might be helpful to you.

I'm not a spider expert....
...I don't think they are, but am not an expert. You can try browsing through some of the photos of fishing spiders to get some information.
