It might have been a wolf spider. I wish I had had my camera, but my screaming wife kind of made me forget about everything:) I am about to post another spider I found this summer in the Adirondaks of NY state, and I actually have a picture. But I am not a spider expert, so it could have been another type.

That might have been the spid

That might have been the spider, of course it was dark so it was hard to tell. Are fishing spiders poisonous?

here. Fishing spiders are apparently not considered dangerous to humans, and are not even listed in the article, but some of the links might be helpful to you.

...I don't think they are, but am not an expert. You can try browsing through some of the photos of fishing spiders to get some information.
