Anise Swallowtail - Papilio zelicaon

Anise Swallowtail - Papilio zelicaon
Palo Alto Baylands, Santa Clara County, California, USA
September 6, 2009
I think this must be a Papilio zelicaon? Perhaps a male? It was perching and making occasional forays.

Moved
Moved from Butterflies (excluding skippers). Unfortunately, we don't get Giant Swallowtails this far north. This one appears to have subspecies, but I don't know much about it... Thanks for the confirmation, Ron!

Yes, anise swallowtail
Seeing any Giant Swallowtails up your way? I've noticed two in the last couple of days, first I've seen this year.
