Ticks have moved into this region of Georgian Bay region very recently, within about the last decade. In spring and early summer, they can be seen in great numbers hanging off blades of grass and pine needles on low-lying branches.

Hi Eric, thank you! After reading your comment I shortly found myself looking at your blog and was a bit dumbfounded to see that you are the main author of Kaufman's Field Guide- I'd been looking at it just this afternoon, trying to decide on an insect guide that would be suitable for Ontario or southern Canada. Great blog- I particularly liked that you calmed the Buprestis sulcicollis beetle by sticking it in the fridge.
