Funnel Web spider- Agelenopsis? - Agelenopsis

Funnel Web spider- Agelenopsis? - Agelenopsis
Monroe County, Indiana, USA
September 24, 2005
Size: Body 1/2 inch
This spider was spotted on a broad leafed plant where it moved around for the better part of a day. It then moved to a nearby potted mother-in-law's tongue plant, where it has taken up residence in a narrow space the base of the tall leaves. At night, it seems to move around on the plant, returning to its nook in the daytime. I've been observing it for four days. At first, I thought it was a wolf spider, because it doesn't seem to be making a web at all. But it looks just a photo of an Agelenopsis I found on your site. What do you think?

I would agree.. Agelenid.
I would agree with your ID! Yes, it is a funnel-web spider (Agelenid), and most likely an Agelenopsis grass spider... :)

A good indication for Agelenopsis (aside from the funnel web), are the elongated spinnerets (at the end of the abdomen); wolf spiders can look somewhat similiar at first glance, but amongst other things, wolf spiders don't have long, prominent spinnerets. I would also guess this is a female, but would need to see the front of the spider (the pedipalps) to confirm that.
