Black fly with white bands - Exoprosopa

Black fly with white bands - Exoprosopa
Carlsbad Caverns NP, Walnut Canyon, Eddy County, New Mexico, USA
September 5, 2009
Sorry I didn't get a better shot, but maybe there will be something distinctive.

Moved
Moved from Bee Flies.

ID
This is an undescribed sp. of Exoprosopa. The distinctive feature is the set of wing spots.

Thanks.
That is exciting! Makes me wish I had gotten a better picture, though.

Wonderful!
Well, Jerry, that's as good as it gets for now - and quite good at that!

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Bee fly
Very elegant bee fly in the family Bombyliidae. I hesitate to offer a genus, though.

Suggestion
Move your post to Bee Flies for specialist attention. (A quick guess: Exoprosopa.)

Done.
Thanks to Eric Eaton for the family and to you for the suggestion. It took me a while to figure out the procedure for moving an image—maybe it would have seemed more intuitive if I hadn't been grading physics homework at the same time.

Should I move my images whenever there's a non-controversial ID? Should I post a note when I move my own images, the way other people note when they've moved mine?

Good questions.
First, a comment. Check the Help tab; it's like a mini-manual for the site and fills in details in the following...

When you get an ID, feel free to move your own post. I believe the system automatically produces a Moved note, as you'll see here.

When you know the ID, you can post directly to the appropriate section.

I never grade physics homework when I'm using the site. For that matter, I never grade physics homework. To each his own.

Thanks again.
What I couldn't figure out was the instructions in the Help tab. But yes, as you said, the Moved note is automatic—a very nice feature.
