Katydid - Conocephalus fasciatus - female

Katydid - Conocephalus fasciatus - Female
Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, USA
September 9, 2009
Size: 20 mm
The ovipositor is an additional 10 mm. I'm guessing it's Conocephalus fasciatus. I found it while mowing the grass. It's been quite a while since I've seen a katydid.

Yes, sorta:-)
I think the western one is still reluctantly classified as its own species, Conocephalus vicinus.

Uh oh,
Then I may have a problem on:

These are C. fasciatus
Classification on Bugguide follows the Orthoptera Species File, which lists vicinus as a synonym of fasciatus.
