Ant Lion
A memeber of the Order Neuroptera which are not "flies". Flies are in the order Diptera. This is one of the giant ant lions. If you browse through the ant lion images you should find something close.

Thanks, Harry. Several times in the last few days I've noticed what I thought was a large slow moving dragonfly passing my office window; this must me what I've been seeing.
