Found at a light. This was the best image I could get before it flew away and broke my heart.

Predatory?
Is there any truth to the adage that the stinkbugs with spines on their thoraces are predatory?

I am not sure about that. In this case, no, according to the Guide Page for the genus.
I believe that the spines in this case would better serve as an anti-predator defence.
