Coleoptera: Grant's Hercules Beetle - Dynastes granti

Coleoptera: Grant's Hercules Beetle - Dynastes granti
Bradshaw Ranger District, Prescott National Forest, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA

Why did the beetle grub cross the road?

I was going to write that this beetle grub was 5.25 to 5.5 cm but with ruler in hand I'd say its more like 7 cm: mondo!

We're in Accord on This One, Thanks, Moved
Hope I got it right.

Thanks for the dialogue.

Moved from ID Request.

Sorry I meant to look some more.
I couldn't find any pics online, and was going to look in some books but forgot! I hope its right, pics of the species will be helpful, so I'll try to ask around and try to find a key or description.

How big was it?
If it was fairly large, it may be Dynastes granti

Thats Dynastes tytyus but they're similar.

I Was Going to Write
that it is similar to this but mine with a black head. I couldn't find an image of Grant's Hercules Beetle grub.

i'll bet you're on the right track
My 10-lined June Beetle idea would be a baby compared to this :)

That was another one I thought of though :)
They're decently large as well.

looks pretty big
Did you get a measurement of it? Looks pretty big and bulky. The shape looks like a scarab grub of some kind to me. I wonder if it might be a Ten-lined June Beetle grub or something like that.
EDIT - actually, lately I have seen some grubs out on sidewalks recently too.
