Moved from ID Request.

not exactly an ant -- this is a male wasp...
...a member of the family Mutillidae, appropriately called 'velvet ants' :-]

really?
A wasp, huh. The pest technician said it was a flying ant. Thank you for the correction

Bradynobaenidae: Chyphotes sp.
This is a bradynobaenid wasp in the genus Chyphotes. This genus is nocturnal. The males are winged, while the females are not.
