Springtail on my desk - Orchesella celsa

Springtail on my desk - Orchesella celsa
Pelham, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
September 3, 2009

Moved
Moved from Springtails and allies. Thanks, Frans! You are always welcome to use my photos. This is the first time I've gotten a good enough photo of a springtail to get anywhere close to a species ID--one of these days I need to upgrade my equipment to accommodate these little guys.

Orchesella celsa
The secundary subsegmentation of the basal antennal segment, typical to Orchesella, is well visible. I'll be happy to use your Collembola pictures as illustrations at collembola.org.
