Caterpillar found crawling in picnic area on hill above Jackson Bog. Most people think it's a Sphinx Moth caterpillar but don't know what kind.

Paonis excaecatus
or
P. myops
. My guess would be
P. myops
because of the backward pointing horn of this individual which is more characteristic of this species than
P. excaecatus
.

if the "spikes" look like this picture where they are more prominent, this might be a match: maduca rustica(rustic sphinx)?
