Bumble bee unknown species - Xylocopa micans - Female
Jupiter, Florida, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA

Size: 1.5 inches
Bumble Bee on the stem of a flower. I know it's in the Bumbus family, unsure of the specifics. Also interesting that it doesn't have much for yellow hair.

no bumblebee; this must be Xylocopa micans
[btw., there's no such thing as "Bumbus family"; there is, however a genus, Bombus, where most bumblebees belong. Animal family names always end '-idae'.]

Xylocopa micans a type of bumblebee?
I guess I don't have my terminology down yet. So Bombus is a genus, not a family. Ok I will try to research further before posting.

you're welcome to simply post your pix without researching --
people will quickly give you some initial hints to start from: insects are way too diverse and you'll be all over the place; it's better to get a push in the right direction first and save yourself a ton of time -- then research the matter in a more focused manner
