Big green dragonfly

Big green dragonfly
Carrollton, Dallas County, Texas, USA
September 7, 2009
Size: About 3" long, 4" wide
This big dragonfly was banging himself against our glass back door at night, apparently drawn to the light in the house. He was doing this so violently that he knocked himself out one time, lying on his back on the ground until I touched him and he flew up again. Finally I caught him and released him away from the back door. He lit on an eave and hung there for quite a while, regathering his strength, I suppose.

Green Darner
If I saw that dragonfly in New England I'd call it a green darner, Anax junius. I don't know if there are other, similar species in Texas.
