Greenhouse Stone Cricket (Diestrammena asynamora) - male

Greenhouse Stone Cricket (Diestrammena asynamora) - Male
Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
September 13, 2009
Size: 1.2 inches, body length
What are the paired swordlike structures in the back? Are they just thornlike structures to make them unpalatable? Although this one is relatively large I've seen them larger.
The antennae are amazingly long: I estimate from the photograph they are about 3x the body length. The specified length, 1.2 inches, was obtained from the macrolens magnification scale. I specified male because there was no ovipositor which I understand is long and prominent.

Yes.
Greenhouse stone cricket I believe...The paired structures are called "cerci," and are mostly sensory organs.

Greenhouse Stone Cricket
Thanks for the information particularly with regard to the "cerci"
