Unknown Cricket/ katydid - female

Unknown Cricket/ katydid - Female
Savannah, Happy Holler Conservation Area, Andrew County, Missouri, USA
September 13, 2009
Size: 3/4 inch, ovipos. 1 1/2"
I know this will sound silly, but I seriously cannot tell if this is a cricket or a katydid. My instinct says cricket, but each time I think I have it figured out, I'm wrong. I am completely perplexed on this one. It was in some grassy areas near a large lake.

Katydid.
Female meadow katydid in the genus Conocephalus, maybe C. strictus. Don't worry, plenty of insects still get me confused, too!

Some of these small katydids
Some of these small katydids look so much like crickets it is amazing. This one was truly unique, very interesting color. I'm glad to know that even seasoned entomologist are stumped every so often :o)
