Termite (Reticulitermes?) - Reticulitermes

Termite (Reticulitermes?) - Reticulitermes
Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, USA
September 14, 2009
Size: Body length 5 to 6 mm
Dealate reproductive. I captured several individuals from a swarm around a wooden deck. Maybe the western subterranean termite, Reticulitermes hesperus? The following photos are not necessarily from the same individual, but all from the same swarm.

Probably
Your identification is probably correct, at least to genus, but I might be tempted to take specimens to the entomology department at UC Davis, or somebody at UC Berkeley for confirmation. I seriously doubt it is something exotic, but it pays to play it safe....
