A little beat up and image is fuzzy, but would like id.

Phyciodes can be difficult. Where this was taken there are four species. It is a female, and from just the upper side it can be very difficult to identify them. To me it doesn't look like P. cocyta nor P. tharos (but could be either, just not average). It could pass as P. pulchella pretty easily, but what it looks the most like to me is P. batesii ssp. lakota.

From the image, I was sure that it was our western Field Crescent, but in SD it has to be the Pearl

According to Audubon book, Field Crescent can range down into Kansas. So I suppose it could be either.
