Explanation of Names
Norape cretata (Grote, 1864), rev. status, is raised from synonymy of Norape ovina (Sepp, [1855]) in Wagner et al. (2022).
Size
Wingspan 27-33 mm.
Forewing length 11-17 mm.
(1)Identification
Adult - wings and body pure gleaming white, seperated from other white moths by wing shape, and stout hairy body. HW rounded. Male has orangish antennae.
Food
A variety of hosts reported including black locust, hackberry and redbud.
(1)Life Cycle
Two generations per year in most of range, likely more in south.
Remarks
Caterpillar has stinging spines.
