Velvet Ant (Mutillidae)
These are actually wasps and not true ants. The females are wingless and hence resemble "hairy ants". In contrast, the males are well equipped with wings and wasp looking,.. yet harmless (Males do NOT sting). There are many species and a number of Genera.
