It is a beautiful caterpillar. Careful - the spines can sting. There is a picture of it in the guide at the address below.

interesting, it's somewhat cryptic
The clusters of spines look exactly like the tip of a hemlock twig. Not particularly camouflaging on holly, but on hemlock it would blend in perfectly.
