Final instar A. americana? - Acronicta americana

Final instar A. americana? - Acronicta americana
Columbia, on the MKT trail, Boone County, Missouri, USA
September 18, 2009
Size: A little over 2 inches
I found this guy today and he's the biggest American dagger i've found so I'm curious if this is his last instar before pupation/how can one tell the instar on these cats?

probably
I don't know much about these guys, but I know that any final instar larvae of these that I've come across while they are wandering for a place to cocoon, they are around this size.

Thanks!
It's been wandering around its container ad nauseum.
