cream & red spotted cow dung beetle - Sphaeridium scarabaeoides

cream & red spotted cow dung beetle - Sphaeridium scarabaeoides
Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
August 22, 2005
Size: 8 - 9 mm
Found on a large "flow" of runny cow manure that was dumped on a dairy's huge manure pile. The flow, resembling the world's largest cow patty, had crusted over slightly, and several types of non-scarabine beetles could be seen emerging, traversing the flow, and diving back into the muck, including this attractively colored individual.

Much obliged Andy!
It's good to know who's nosediving into the cow patties around here. I've moved these images to the species page for Sphaeridium scarabaeoides, which already has some pix of beetles that look like this species.
