It was on a web and retreated to a nest built-up in a bracken fern frond.

Shamrock Orbweaver i think
Araneus trifolium, if I'm right.
They vary in color quite a bit. What a beauty! Also yours looks like first WA record. Wait for expert confirm to be safe.
