Size: appx. 1/2"
Photo was taken at Lake Ramsay Preserve in Louisiana; it is a pine savanna habitat. There were about 10 of these little multi-colored beetles crawling on a stalk of grass. Hope someone can help id these pretty beetles.

The way to tell these apart from beetles is that they don't have wings that meet down the back in a straight line. (Or any wings at all, for that matter!) Here are some photos of beetles with a good view of the straight line between the wings:
