What Kind of Fly? - Eristalis dimidiata

What Kind of Fly? - Eristalis dimidiata
Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA
September 20, 2009
On Eupatorium. Plant moving in wind; camera-shy subject; these are the best images I could get, but I'm hoping the abdominal patterning is distinctive enough that someone who knows more than I do can ID this individual.

Male flower fly? I'm thinking the gold-and-black pattern says Syrphid. Robust shape and white stripes say ... Eristalis? Palpada? Something entirely different?

A non-expert ID - Looks like Eristalis dimidiata. Cheers, Sandy Spitalnik

A second opinion from another non-expert.
Sandy's nailed it.

That makes three of us
Perfect match. Thanks, Sandy and Ron.
