Orb Spider? Worcester County Massachusetts

This spider seems to make a web of sorts, we could see it trying in the Tupperware we were taking pictures of it in. I think it might be an orb spider but I can't find anything that matches its colors.

That species is only supposed to occur in the south. The most common one found on houses I believe is Parasteatoda tepidariorum - Common House Spider. Sometimes the juvenile black widow can look similar to the common house spider according to some field guides.
