Spotted Wing Drosophila (Exotic Pest New to North America) - Drosophila suzukii - male - female

Spotted Wing Drosophila (Exotic Pest New to North America) - Drosophila suzukii - Male Female
Tenino, Thurston County, Washington, USA
September 23, 2009
This exotic species may be present anywhere in North America. Bug Guide photographers are urgently needed to document the occurrence of this new pest everywhere (before frost...). Look for the adult flies around any/all berry crops, and photographs of adult flies on fruit are best. Recent observations in the PNW have found blackberries to be a favored host. Contact local extension offices for more details on this new exotic pest.
