More goldenrod gall fauna - Asteromyia carbonifera

More goldenrod gall fauna - Asteromyia carbonifera
Prudential campus, Upper Dublin, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 20, 2009
Size: 2 mm
The maggot is rather non-descript but the gall is black like charcoal inside; that makes it identifiable. The plant is severely infested with fungi. There seems to be a symbiotic relationship between the fungi and the gall maker. The species of goldenrod seems to be Solidago altissima.
IDed by Netta Dorchin.
