Jim Thorpe, PA 18229, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA
October 2, 2005
Size: 1 inch approx.
I have a photo of it compared to a Yellow Jacket (not a great ID photo just for size)-
the others are much clearer and for ID. Bout the size of a Bald-faced Hornet-but yellow and black

Vespula vidua queen.
I got all excited for a minute because I initially thought this might be a Dolichovespula arctica. Alas, it is the queen of Vespula vidua.

I think I may have takena pho
I think I may have takena photo of one of those-I thought it was Bald-faced Hornet-now looking at that-hmm-cos it was big than a Blad-faced Hornet-not by much but enough to tell. I'll hunt it down and you can tell me.

In the mean time thanks for ID on this monster-I had a feeling it might be that-but I wasn't sure.

Jo ^_^

Thanks for the ID, Eric
I have moved all to the V. vidua page
