Reminds me of Toxorhynchites rutilus, a type of mosquito. I'm no expert though, so wait around for a correction/confirmation. Your specimen appears to be a female, and if it is this species, that would explain why it's feeding on the flower instead of you! See here:

You are correct. The curved proboscis is the key here (as well as the huge size).
