Robber Fly - Neoitamus orphne - female

Robber Fly - Neoitamus orphne - Female
Greenfield, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
July 29, 2004
Herschel made this comment on my website. "I'm thinking Neoitamus orphne but I have not seen a female shot before."

Neo
Genus distinctive with the odd genitalia on the females and small size overall. I think N. flavofemoratus is an earlier species in my area. N orphne can be separated from N flavofemoratus by more blackened fore-femurs which are clearly shown in your shot. N flavofemoratus has orange fore-femurs beneath

Thanks
for the explanation on what to look at, Herschel.
