Western Conifer Seed Bug - Leptoglossus occidentalis

I found this inside a second story window. I believe it was introduced to California about 12 years ago from its native China. It took several or more years for it to migrate to the east coast. Destructive to hardwood trees?

Leptoglossus occidentalis?

There's lots of info on the web about the Western Conifer Seed Bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis. This fact sheet from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station indicates it was introduced into Connecticut in the mid-1980's. The description mentions the white markings.

At last!

Hey Troy,

this all makes sense to me. As I mentioned in the commentary with that picture, we've had our share of them in the house overwinter (which coincides with the info on the sites you sent) and our house in Amherst is surrounded by pine and fir trees. So now I know why they're here:)

In fact, I'll add a recent pic of one I freed this weekend. They are good models...
