Big, Beautiful Caterpillar! - Antheraea polyphemus

Big, Beautiful Caterpillar! - Antheraea polyphemus
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA
September 26, 2009
Size: 3-3.5 inches
We found it crawling through the grass in the backyard. It's bright green with gold dots. (The dots look red because of the flash, but they look like 14 karat gold!)There are short, yellow lines on each side.It has long, green antennae too, but it got very shy when we pulled out the camera and went into hiding.
