Absalom - Megalopyge

Absalom - Megalopyge
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
September 28, 2009
Size: 1 cm
This baby has a full head of hair! I believe it is an early instar of the Southern Flannel Moth Caterpillar--I saw the more familiar 2.5 cm version a few days ago in the same area under Red Oak and Live Oak trees. You can see the ridge on its back under all that fur.

No idea, but love the name you gave it :-)

If I don't recognize a caterpillar, I usually take it home to see what it turns into...this does not apply to flannel moths!
