trapdoor spider? - Cyclocosmia truncata

trapdoor spider? - Cyclocosmia truncata
Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA
September 28, 2009
found in neiboring yard in small burrow in the soil, very lethargic. (looks dead in pics but i assure you it is not) when overly annoyed (by me with a very small twig) it reared up on its back legs and grabbed at the stick (almost like a snake striking) i think it is some variety of cork trapdoor spider, its abdomen is very cool with vertical lines and a fold underneath.

Cyclocosmia
Yes, but not Ummidia. This looks to be a male Cyclocosmia species.
