Bumelia borer - Plinthocoelium suaveolens
Blackjack Knob, 2.8 mi E Rueter on Hwy 160, Taney County, Missouri, USA
July 11, 2009
This southern U.S. species occurs in southern Missouri on limestone/dolomite glades on its host plant, gum bumelia (Sideroxylon lanuginosum). Larvae bore in the lower trunk and roots of living trees. This larva was found in a lateral root about 18" from the trunk.

Full-sized photograph and further details can be found in my post, North America’s most beautiful longhorned beetle.
