Can this be anything but Spined Micrathena? - Micrathena gracilis
Raleigh, near Rts 50 and US 70, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
September 30, 2009
Size: 10 mm
Looking from the under-, slightly convex side of the web when she deserted it for the maple tree trunk. The web is not vertical to the ground; probably a 35-45 degree slant. The 4 inch wide by 3.5 inch high web is only inches from the maple trunk, not in the middle of the 5 feet of space between the juniper foliage and the maple trunk. The upper horizontal line is very thick.
