I saw these two on a Bidens plant in the front yard. I can't find them in any of my books and was curious as to ID.

Syntomeida ipomoeae #8282 is my bet

My instinct is something
in the family Sesiidae - Clearwing Moths but I don't see an easy ID either here or at MPG. William Taft is the resident expert on those. Beautiful couple and you got a great shot of them.

i might of said the same thing a few days ago
but i was looking at tiger moths when they posted this and had just thought hmm, they have different legs and wings than the borer types.

There was a single specimen on the same plant again this afternoon.
